That's so exciting about going to Indiana! I'll be praying for your safe journey and enjoyable time! Love you!
Interesting article. Is the ideal wife a career woman in your opinion? To phrase that a bit different, I guess I would ask what do you see as your ideal role as a wife?
@Tom - Well, I think the ideal wife is a professional who realizes that she can take time off (or work part-time) to raise young children, which is what I plan to do. Those first five years of a child's life are pivotal developmentally, and I want to make sure the children are raised in the most loving Christian household and in a household conducive to the child's development.
Prior to this summer, I had planned to become a Sociology professor and work at a topnotch university. I realized, though, that it is nearly impossible to live that life and to be a good mom. (People try to do both but are unsuccessful.) I am in a research program this summer that implicitly discourages that lifestyle. I realized, though, that my desire to be a mother outweighs my desire to a professor, which was not a tough decision.
Is a Ph.D. out of the question? Certainly not. However, I do not plan to enter a program (if I even still want to enter it) until my forties, when my children are old enough to understand and comprehend what I am doing.
